Transit

Sally knows that a thriving Albemarle County means accessible public transit. She supports:

  • Continuing to strengthen the Regional Transit Authority partnership.
  • Improving bus access to Albemarle High School.
  • Making our bus stops ADA accessible.
  • Creating bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
  • Continuing to improve and expand our regional and commuter transit options like the Afton Express.

It is no secret that we have a lot of traffic in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area, and often it is unpleasant! But It does not have to stay this way. We can improve our public transit to reduce the amount of cars on the road. We can continue to increase multi-modal opportunities, and we can continue to invest in creating a walkable urban environment. Over 50% of Albemarle County’s greenhouse gas emissions comes from transportation. 60% of people who work in Albemarle County live outside of the county. The best way we can help the environment and improve people’s quality of life is to cut down the amount of time people have to spend driving.

Public transit should be reliable and convenient.

We should continue to emphasize the goals in the Comprehensive Plan of creating a safe and comfortable pedestrian network and having safe and convenient multimodal transportation connections. In addition, we need to create safe biking areas. We also need to continue to work towards having a public transit system that is reliable and convenient. We need to continue strengthening the regional transit partnership, improve public transit access to Albemarle High School, and implement changes laid out in the Transit Plan to make sure the CAT routes are working for our residents.
